Mom's Root Beer
Mom’s root beer was developed in the spring of 2015 by Roger Lund of Core Beverage in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Core Beverage is a distributor of novelty sodas, premium beverages, flavor syrups, coffee, and bakery Items, and has been in business since 2013. The parent company is Lund Distribution, which has been a family-owned company for nearly 40 years.
In 1977 Tore and Eivor Lund immigrated from Sweden and started a company called Swedish Trading located in Edina Minnesota—the same location where the company is today. The business imported kitchenware from Scandinavia. In 1998 the name was changed to Lund Distribution as they focused less on importing and more on national distribution. Their son, Roger Lund, took over the family business in 2011.
A recent acquisition of another distribution company introduced a line of gourmet soda to their coffee business. “The original idea was to let the soda side of the acquisition fade away, but we are glad we didn’t do that,” said Lund, “the soda line has become the fastest growing segment of our business.” Lund says he loves how his soda “brings out the nostalgia in people.”
According to Lund the company started with the original 70 brands from the acquisition, but now have over 200 varieties of soda, which they distribute nationally. “The company continues to grow,” says Lund, “the original soda that sat in a 900sf area now sits in a 4000 square foot warehouse!”
Their Mom’s Root Beer is the first of what they hope to be many sodas created by Core Beverage. Another soda name they are currently developing is called Ace Root Beer, which they hope to have available soon.
They admit they played a little off of the popular “Dad’s” Root beer in creating their Mom’s Root Beer—getting a chuckle out of the tagline “The Better Half.”
